At first glance the YP-U4 looks like nothing more then a glorified USB stick. But what it is in actual fact an MP3 player with touch-sensitive controls cleverly hidden under a seemingly innocent flat surface. MP3 Situations We test and see how the Samsung YP-U4 4GB fares in common MP3 situations. In The Gym It comes with an optional handband that you can snuggly fit around your arm so that is a big plus. The controls however were not very responsive especially with sweaty hands so it becomes a bit daunting controlling your device whilst exercising. You try skipping Jill Scott's "He Loves Me" while sweating profusely and trying not to fall off you treadmill all at the same time. The earphones provided are nicely hook shaped so that they cling on to your head fairly well no matter how much you are bouncing, boobing or weaving. Commuting It has about 16 hours of battery life so it should last most journeys there and back. With 4GBs you have plenty of space to put in your PC's entire music collection so you won't get bored for a while. The earphones provide a reasonable amount of outside sound buffering but don't expect to drown out commuter noises unless you pump the volume up to a eardrum exploding level. The device weighs in at 27.5g which in today's market is neither small or light so it drops a point for portability and subtleness. At Home You can use the software provided or simply use Windows drag-and-drop feature to transfer files. Unfortunately though this one will not work with your Mac. Overall Specs 4GB Storage - 16 Hours playback time - PC only - MP3, WMA & Ogg Vorbis compatible - FM radio - Voice Recorder - LED Display - 27.5 g 4 out of 5 stars It is a good looking and good sounding MP3 player but not recommended for the gym or anyplace where you want easy control of your device while in motion. |
