Do you have hair growing on and around your butt? If it does then like most hairy guys and some hairy gals, you've got butt hair. Butt hair can cover the cheeks, between the crack and around the anus too.

Not to worry, as this is a lot more common then you might think. We don't have an exact percentage on it mostly because no one has commissioned research on the percentage of men with butt hair yet. But we are lobbying for it so it should be out soon.

Its Purpose

It is not the most attractive of qualities but it has its purposes just like hair has in other parts of your bodies.

We asked anatomy professor, Dr. Wiley Jacobs what the benefit of butt hair was. "Hair in the anus region was quite natural in our ancestors...this was before the time of cars and other vehicles so man was generally on foot...all that walking cause some deal of friction in the anus region...the hair was a natural way to reduce the chaffing and irritation caused by this friction."

During our interview with the professor his students also enlightened us with some theories on the benefits of butt hair.

• A filter to make your flatulence more bearable to loved ones.
• A protection device to ensure no critters crawl up into you while you are asleep.
• It gives a true Tom Selleckish quality to your anus.
• It is like a little sweater for your scrotum during those chilly winters

Hair Removal Techniques

So what's the best way to get rid off it? There is no best way per se, each hair removal method comes with its own benefits and drawbacks.

• Shaving - You can try shave it, but it may be difficult to shave your own butt. So if you have a really understanding girlfriend who is ready to do it for you then it maybe a nice way to spend the afternoon. Also because it is a sensitive area that rubs together a lot and is prone to heat and moisture, shaving can cause irritation and flare ups. Try use a trimmer in this case instead of a razor.
• Waxing - This one will hurt but it is a small price to pay for vanity. You can go to a salon or beautician if you are not too embarrassed about having someone else do it for you otherwise our backroom experiments showed that it is possible to wax your own butt. 
• Nads - Hair removal cream is a popular solution but can cause burns in overly sensitive areas. Read the instructions carefully and use the cream that is made specifically for pubic areas.
• Fire - This one is for the daredevils out there. You can actually burn the hair off with a match. This is probably the most dangerous technique and if you do have a friend helping you out, try to resist the temptation to pass wind on the open flame. Some beauticians do this but it is a rarity and maybe difficult to find.
