It's been a while since Sony sat on top of the video game market so snugly as it did in it's PS2 glory days. Primarily because with this generation's releases it brought old gameplay tactics to a brand new field. Whilst it battled it out with Microsoft's XBOX 360 for who had the most pixels on the screen, Nintendo took a huge step in another direction and revolutionized the industry with it's innovative and highly-fun Nintendo Wii. Thus introducing the world to an era of motion-control gaming. It was then expected that Sony and Microsoft would do their best to quickly come up with a Wii-Killer. Quickly in this instance took them more then a few years, but it is finally here and it's name is the very unimaginative PS3 Motion Controller (hopefully Sony's marketing team does something about that). The announcement comes a day after Microsoft's announcement of their Project Natal, which is also a motion-controller device but uses no interface device. It has a camera which detects the players motion on-screen. As for PS3's motion controller, all we have to say from early viewings is don't let the boring name fool you, this one has the right technology backing it. It's introduction in E3 2009 wowed the crowds with most industry experts saying that the PS3 motion controller is what the Nintedo Wiimote should have been. It's use of LED's and other technologies brings a whole new degree of accuracy to the device. The controller works alongside a Playstation Eye Camera which detects movements and the position of the remote. The controller's face also has trigger buttons allowing it to act as a gun or a variety of other weapons. Inside the controller are motion detectors which can detect movement with an accuracy of 7mm. The E3 demo saw the wand being used as a gun, a sword and even to shoot arrows. The controller is also able to detect the speed and power a player puts into their gestures. Engineers of the game commented that it brings a new element of fun to the PS3 for casual gamers and complements hardcore gamers who can now have a more interactive and realistic experience in first-person shooters or racers. The official release date of the PS3 motion controller was not given.
